Description

The Type 75 howitzer looks like the U.S. M109A1 self-propelled howitzer. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan built the hull and conducted the final assembly. Japan Iron Works built the howitzer and turret. It is fitted with a semi-automatic loading system consisting of two drum-type rotating magazines, a loaded tray, and a hydraulic rammer. The rotating magazines each hold 9 projectiles. The howitzer returns to a 6-degree elevation for reloading after firing. Upon completion of reloading the howitzer returns to its firing elevation. Secondary armament consists of a roof-mounted 12.7 mm heavy machine gun with a small shield for protection. Armor of the Type 75 provides protection against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. The vehicle is fitted with NBC protection system as well as a fire-suppression system. The Type 75 is no longer being produced and is being replaced by the Type 99 SPH.
