The Type 73 SKW 464 tactical truck is an improved version of the SKW 440 truck. The Type 73 designation remains unchanged for each vehicle series improvement due to the capabilities and performance being about the same. The SKW series has no armor, NBC protection system, and is unarmed. The Japanese Type 81 Tan-SAM system is mounted an a SKW 464 chassis. The 464M is the cargo truck version with a tarpaulin cover. It has a wider less sloped cab (than the SKW 440) that can be removed and the windshield lowered to reduce the silhouette of the vehicle. The windshield wipers are attached to the bottom of the front windshield. The truck has an Isuzu V-8 diesel 240 horsepower engine, manual transmission (5 forward, 1 reverse), and improved drivetrain, and and automatic braking system (ABS). The truck is capable of carrying 22 soldiers in the rear cargo area as well as towing trailers or artillery systems with a maximum weight of 6 tons over roads. Isuzu of Japan manufactures the Type 73 tactical truck. It is not available for export.
